Stephen Hawking stole my ideas about black holes!

vs.

Time for some fun:

The great Dr. Raj Baldev has a complaint against Stephen Hawking, that Hawking stole his idea! Apparently Baldev is considering a copyright claim against Hawking! (You learn on the first day of copyright class that ideas are not copyrightable, by the way.)

The International Reporter, a purported news outlet, reports that Stephen Hawking's recently publicized ideas about black holes are not original to him, but to a Dr. Raj Baldev. Hawking recently announced to the physics world that he has concluded that matter and information sucked into a black hole is eventually spewed out in a mangled form, as opposed to the former and more interesting idea about the matter being shot into another parallel universe. This was huge news from Hawking, who has worked on the problem for about 30 years now, and was widely covered in the media, there are article here, here, here, here, and here. More from Google News here.

The International Reporter has published two articles claiming that Dr. Raj Baldev came up with this idea years ago and that Hawking is stealing his "copyright" in the idea. Apparently Baldev wrote about the same idea in a book called "Two Big Bangs Created the Universe." The book doesn't seem to be available on Amazon, or anywhere else for that matter. A second article in the International Reporter also questions the originality of Hawking's idea.

Dr. Raj Baldev has supposedly written this mangled article on black holes (in broken English and also in the International Reporter).

This page states: "Dr. Raj Baldev, who is a famous Cosmo Theorist, is also considered an authority in Astrology and occult sciences..." Hmmmm. Also, the good doctor has apparently "discerned a plot against Bush," article here (surprisingly published in the International Reporter).

Basically, this is a bunch of total quacks with too much time on their hands, or maybe even some cult or something. Anyway, it's pretty funny. I'll be keeping my eye out for that copyright claim Baldev is going to bring against Hawking, I'm sure the famous cosmologist has a strong case. Maybe this is something that would interest Snopes?

You got the wrong picture, that is not the picture of Dr. Raj Baldev.

I have read the book and am quite convinced by his thoughts, however you may want to buy the book in order to make your own opinion.

I'll be damned, that link above does seem to be a spot where you can buy the "Two Big Bangs" book. That doesn't mean I am at all convinced that Baldev did the math before Hawking though. And no, I'm not going to read it, I have plenty of books to read already, many are giant books assigned for reading in law school and many others are just one's I've been wanting to read for fun but haven't gotten too. Sorry!

Oh yeah, and the Raj Baldev picture I got is the one from his supposed "bio" page as linked to in my post, so if it isn't him, well... It only makes the whole thing that much more strange.

You will find the photograph and a little bit about Dr. Raj baldev in http://www.indiaexpress.com/news/technology/interviews/20030717-0.html

You may have got confused with some other Author with the same name.

Anyways, you may be a big fan of Hawking, but if he is wrong, he is wrong.

Imagine my shock and disgust to discover on the pages of the much revered "International Reporter" that bastard Stephen Hawking stole the intellectual property of the great and famous Dr. Raj Baldev who clearly came up with the idea that Hawking was incorrect before Hawkings finally admitted his great mistake. And why is world in denial about this robbery? Because Dr. Raj Baldev is an indian, that's why.
Please someone pinch my left buttock and inform me that it is not so.

I have erased the above comment because it was merely a huge copy and paste of the contents of this page - http://www.occultastrology.com/AboutUs/Sarjatak.asp
The page concerns a sort of astrology called "Sarjatak" that Raj Baldev (a.k.a. "Swamy Raj") apparently developed. Raj is an expert star chart creator!

So, does this lend any credibility to his findings concerning the physics of black holes? Hmmmm...

Abu Abdullah Al-Battani ( 858 - 929 A.D.) Abu Abdullah Al Battani born in Harran and later of Samarra, was a famous astronomer, mathematician and Astrologer

Culpeper, Nicholas (1616-1654) English Physician and Astrologer

Subramanyan Chandrasekhar (1910-1995) Chandrasekhar's is famous for his research which describes the Chandrasekhar limit had interest in Astrology.

So is Dr. Raj Baldev with interest in Astrology and Astronomy. I think it proves his credibility.

Ok, so maybe there was a time when astrology and astronomy were both considered real sciences. But those days are long past, at least for astrology.

I doubt, for instance, that Stephen Hawking dabbles in astrology (or any serious scientist for that matter). Being knowledgable in a psuedo-science does nothing for a scientists credibility.

Besides, a quick search isn't even convincing me that the comment above is correct about some of these guys being into astronomy. Learn to LINK your sources people!
